The Oracle Fulfilled

1. After these things Perseus with his wife returned to the city of Acrisius.

2. He (Acrisius), however, when he saw Perseus, was affected by great fear;

3. for on account of that oracle he still feared his own grandson.

4. Into Thessaly, therefore, to the city Larisa, he fled back at once, in vain, however;

5. for in fact he did not avoid his fate.

6. After a few years the king of Larisa put on great games;

7. Messengers into all parts he had sent and he had declared a day.

8. Many from all the cities of Greece came together at the games.

9. Perseus himself, among others, entered the contest of the discuses.

10. But, while he hurled a disc, he killed his own grandfather by chance.

11. For Acrisius was standing among the spectators of that contest.
